Pupils in Year 1 and 2 follow the National Curriculum for England and Wales in all subjects. Through the curriculum, a balanced programme is offered to these pupils early in their education. They are given the opportunities to develop positive attitudes to learning at the beginning of their schooling.
English, Mathematics and Science have priority in terms of teaching time. The UK frameworks on the National Literacy and Numeracy Strategies are used to provide planning that ensures a complete progression of learning. In History, Geography, Art and Design Technology, ICT and Music, children learn about the world in which they live as well as developing their own creativity and Physical expression. Through Personal, Social and Health Education pupils develop their self-esteem while considering the needs of others.
Circle Time and Key Stage Assemblies provide opportunities to share our successes and talk about the world in which we live.
Assessment for Learning and provision of differentiated learning opportunities ensures that the teachers are aware of each child's potential. In line with schools in the UK, the pupils at the British School of Bucharest complete SATs (Standard Assessment Tasks) in English and Mathematics at the end of Key Stage One.
Additionally, a teacher assessment is conducted at the end of Key Stage One for Science. Twice a year we invite parents to meet their child's form teachers to discuss their child's education and development. An end of year report is completed by the form teacher describing progress throughout the year in all subjects.
