The School Libraries are an integral part of the overall programme at BSB, they support children in becoming successful and confident learners.
Both the Primary and Secondary Library serve as a resource centre for the pupils and staff, encouraging the pursuit of own interests and tastes. Each class from Crèche to Key Stage 3 visits the library weekly in order to acquire library skills, for discussions of their reading choices, for story time or to borrow books. During the early years and all through primary school library skills lessons help to develop independent use of the library, in Key Stage 3 and 4 students have open access to the library anytime during the school day.
The library in the secondary school serves many functions and it is often referred to as the resource centre. At BSB, the secondary students are able to visit the library on a daily basis to select reading material from a wide and varied selection of books, journals and magazines. The library also offers students access to reference material which they can use for research, essays and projects. The addition of computers enables students to further extend the range of materials available to them.
The students all use the library on a needs basis for research; its organization allows easy access to books of different reading levels and other media, including a wide collection of audio books. BSB has a computerized catalogue to help users find library materials, keep track of items on loan and make reservations for items that are needed.
The library's main objective is to ensure that our pupils maintain an unquenchable enthusiasm for learning. With every visit to the library, the students are encouraged to become creative, curious, confident and flexible learners, respecting their individuality and teaching strategies for handling information.
