On Wednesday the 18th of May the British School of Bucharest held its semi-final round of the annual BSBs Got Talent show. Students ranging in age from 7 to 15 years had the opportunity to perform a variety of live pieces including both solo and group musical and theatrical performances. The event was organised by the Primary and Secondary Student Council to give students the opportunity to showcase their talent.
Paying a surprise visit in the weeks leading up to the semi final competition, Romanian artists Marius Nedelcu, ex lead singer of the band "akcent", Sorina Fredholm, a finalist in the original Romanian Star Search Singing Competition, and professional dancer Cristina Constantinescu each spent an afternoon with the students helping them to improve their performances. During these visits the students received instruction on how to improve their stage presence and individual performances, with specific workshops on how to hold a microphone and to move around on stage, and how to perform in front of a large, live audience.
The semi finals saw twenty two students take to the stage, all ready to sing, dance, and act their way to the final. Head of Primary Ms Naima Hussain said, "It was wonderful to see the students performing in front of an audience of their peers with so much confidence. There was a huge variety of talent showcased today and all the judges were impressed with how professional and polished the students were. I was extremely proud of them all."
All students who performed in the semi final round will again have the opportunity to work with the Romanian professional artists in the weeks ahead in preparation for the grand final, where they will perform in front of a large audience at the BSB Summer Fair, either as the opening act or as one of the finalists. The Summer Fair is due to take place on Saturday the 4th of June, at the BSB Campus in Pipera. All parents and friends of BSB are welcome to attend.
